In last email I gave the age of Beverly (Rice) Wade as 96. I am sorry for the typo. Beverly was 86 and LHS class of 1942.

I hate to have to report more of our classmates are having troubles but I know you will want to know:

Ralph Purvis, '52, is home with hospice in San Antonio. Ralph has been fighting cancer several years now (result of agent orange). He and my Bill were good buds back in school and also fished a lot back in the day. They were both crappie killers! Good eatin! Bill called Ralph last Friday and had a good visit and shared a lot of good remembrances.

Janette (Hanes) wrote few days ago that Tubba Goodin '54, is in hospital in Oklahoma City with a brain tumor.

'59 classmate LaRue (Locke) Hogate has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She will have surgery toward end of this month & then series of treatments. Prognosis is very good. On a brighter side for LaRue, she is engaged, will be moving to the beautiful Hill Country of Texas soon.

My sister-in-law Lugene (Williams) Mushrush, '54, has been moved (Sat) to a Hospice Care Center in Houston. She has been some better the last couple of days.

And, my sister-in-law Terri Gill, wife of my brother Tim Gill, '70, had a stroke last week. She is currently stable, has gone to OKC and will be undergoing further tests up there.

Please join me in remembering all these dear classmates in prayers.

From the eMail bag:

Sam Hamra emailed from Palm Springs where he was kicked back enjoying a visit with fellow '55 classmate Hattie Jo (Carleton) Hisey. Hattie Jo and her hubby are retired and live there. Tough job relaxing out there in the warm sunshine...but somebody has to do it!!!!!

Bill Stamps, '60 and wife Sharon (Hartline), '62, just celebrated their golden 50th at a reception hosted by their daughter. Bill & Sharon live in Lawton and Bill had some very sweet words to share.....
"Yep old wolverine sweethearts can make it work....Happy to say!! Its been a wonderful ride with a wonderful woman in my life and I thank GOD for her. Bill Stamps (1960)"
Easy to see WHY it's worked so well. Major congrats guys!

Yours truly was heading in CVS drugstore last Wednesday when someone shouted my name across the parking lot. I turned to see a man sitting in a white van. Didn't look familiar at a distance. Then he shouted "Washington School"! That's all the candy it took to lure me closer to the van! He said.."you don't recognize me, do you"? About that time a light went on...."George?....George Karty"! I thought you were dead"! Nope, not, he says! Could have knocked me over!!!! I sure thought George passed years ago.
We visited and his wife came out & he introduced me to her. George says they live part year in Massachusetts - northern part, close to Vermont - and part here. We went to Washington School together, George said when supposed to enter 6th grade they moved a bunch of kids to McKinley, then he joined up 7th grade at Central. Think he graduated high school from an Indian school.
He was doing fine, his once jet black hair, now white! He said to be sure and tell everyone...'he's alive and well'!
Amazing he recognized me and vice versa! Been a lot of years.

Have had a couple of inquiries about deceased classmates (no connection to each other) who passed at very young age(s). If you should have info on either, please pass along to me & I will get it to those asking.

1). Some one has asked for any recollections or remembrances of classmate Jimmy Moore. Jimmy went to Lincoln Elementary, was in LHS class '56, has/had brother, Jo Bob Moore. Jimmy was killed same year he graduated or maybe '57, so his life was way short. But if anyone recalls anything about Jimmy, please pass along to me.

2). Sharon Diana Cowan Rossinni, nickname 'Dolly'. She is pictured as a junior in the 1959 LORE. She died in a car accident in June, 1964, and her name at that time was Sharon Cowan. Her obit lists her address at the time as 907 1/2 I Ave. She attended grade school in Lawton, moved to California, and returned during high school.
Again, any info, please pass along.
Thanks.

Regards to all.............Georgia

Sadly, once again losses fill the news......

Lewis Trevor Hagler, 78, of Lawton passed on January 7. Trevor graduated LHS...must have been class 1950? He is survived by wife Carolyn; numerous children and grandchildren; a brother Ronnie Hagler, '57; a brother David Hagler; another brother Donnie Hagler is deceased. The family will receive friends on Tuesday January 11 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral, 6:00pm - 7:00pm.

My Bill said Trevor (they called him 'Tag') was a good fisherman. They fished together a lot on same 6 man team tournaments back in the day.

Also passing, Beverly (Rice) Wade, 86, of Norman. Beverly passed after lengthy illness on January 7. Beverly graduated LHS in 1942. She is survived by 2 daughters; a son; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grand children; a sister Jan (Rice) Grogan, LHS '54.
Services will be at 1:30pm, Tuesday January 11 at Becker Funeral Home in Lawton. Burial following at Highland Cemetery. Extended obit and guest book at:

"Word was passed to me that Dorothy J. (Stapp) Mansell passed away in early December in or near Littleton, Colorado. Dorothy was class of ’53 and a good friend to my sister, Benna (Olsen) Morford,’53, and myself, Sarah (Olsen) Vaughn, '56. "

I did learn, after the fact, that a Memorial service was held in Norman for '53 grad Patricia Sue 'Patty' (Mitchell) Burnett. Patty passed on December 30 & service was held January 6.

I know our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones.

I would also ask that you keep my sister-in-law Lugene (Williams) Mushrush, '54, in your prayers. Her health continues to be very fragile and she is going through a rough spot right now. She is currently hospitalized in Houston Methodist.

Other news.......

Country Western music star, Blake Shelton, will rock Tulsa this May 6 in concert at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Shelton, who just won Country Music Assoc Male Vocalist of the Year Award, is a native of Ada, OK and son of LHS classmate
Dickie Shelton.

Herb Jacobs has another great article in Sunday Constitution, January 9 - 'Where Are They Now'? This article talks about Dr. Charles Graybill and his interaction with Dr. Charles Green and the athletics of the day. Also talks about one of Dr. Graybills most famous patients - 'the Mick'. Mickey Mantle when he was at Ft. Sill.
Good read if you can access it.

Appreciate Janey (Johnston) Scott for sharing the great picture (above) of eager future home-makers (haha) in Mrs. Opal Clares home-ec class. LHS class '59 girls - circa 1955-56 (Freshman year).
Left - right:
Brownie Sue Robertson; Janey Johnston; Johnna Gordon; Kay Haines; teacher Opal Clare.

Sorry to have more losses to report as the New Year begins.......

Received a nice note from Sam Hamra, '55, and his sister Sameera Murad, '52, to let us know their Mom, Adeline Hamra, 98, of Dallas, passed on January 2. She had spent New Years with her family and rooted for OU after a calm two weeks from a malignancy. She was at home with hospice and surrounded by wonderful nurses and family and passed peacefully in her sleep.
There will be a memorial service 1:00pm, Wednesday January 5 at the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas TX 75230. The following day there will be a graveside service, 1:15pm, at the Highland Cemetery in Lawton Oklahoma. The Hamras stated that "everyone would agree that someone born 12/12/12 had to be someone special.....we appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we celebrate her wonderful life."
Those who will be attending the service in Lawton may meet at Becker Funeral Home at 12:45pm if desired and travel to Highland from there.
A very accomplished lady, a very nice obituary in Tuesday Constitution.

Pat (Mitchell) Burnett of Moore, OK, passed Christmas week due to cancer of the brain. Pat had been treated earlier for breast cancer and unknown to her, it had spread. Pat was LHS class 1955 and she and her husband, attended our 55th high school reunion this past October and was in wonderful spirits. There was no funeral. Possibly a Memorial service at later date. from: Barbara (Smith) Richards, '55.

Also passing, Jack Fooshee, 81, of Panama City, FL. Jack passed on December 29. Services were January 1 in Panama City. Jack was LHS class 1948. Survivors include wife Carolyn; 5 children; a brother Graydon Fooshee, '51; a sister Lila Slaybaugh, '52, is deceased.

Our sympathies are with these who have lost loved ones.

The retirement center where my mom is living did some beautiful Christmas decorating. On looking around I discovered a wonderful 'snow village' of some 25-30 pieces, mostly bigger - post office, light house, stores - some smaller pieces - people on sleds, caroling, etc. I read that the individual pieces had been hand painted and a village created by
O'Conita "Oke" McClure.
Further reading told me that "Oke" was a 1935 grad of LHS and had passed in 2009. Her daughter,Vickie, is an assistant manager there at the facility and shares and displays her mom's beautiful village for all to see.

Hope it's mostly good news this year!!!!! Regards to all......Georgia
